Exclusive: Eee Pad Transformer Prime hits Aussie shelves next week

Asus Australia has confirmed its Eee Pad Transformer Prime Tegra 3 tablet will be available in Australian stores from the 18th of January, fresh from a promised upgrade to Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The company declined to specify but said the tablet will be sold through normal retail channels. It will initially ship for a bundled $799 for the 32GB model and $899 for 64GB which includes the docking station keyboard. Consumers wanting to purchase the tablet as standalone from the keyboard will have to wait a few months, according to an Asus spokesperson.

The tablet boasts a 1280x800 screen resolution with Nvidia Tegra 3 Quad Core 1.3GHz processor, 1.2MP front and 8MP rear cameras, SD and microSD slots and an 18 hour battery life.

The Transformer Prime today benefited from an upgrade from Honeycomb 3.2 to Android’s latest operating system, despite Asus showing off a newer HD model at the CES conference in Las Vegas. The Transformer Prime HD will carry full high-definition features for a planned April launch.
