Equinix has been named as the top data centre operator in every region across the globe, according to Cloudscene.
The quarterly leaderboard ranks the top ten data centre operators in Oceania, Asia, EMEA and North America. The companies were selected from a total of 4900 global operators listed on Cloudscene based on the number of facilities and connectivity, or number of points of presence (PoPs).
Cloudscene, launched in August 2016 by NextDC and Megaport founder Bevan Slattery, is an online portal that provides visibility of internet and cloud service providers within specific data centres.
According to Slattery, there is an expectation that information is made available 24/7, especially when finding a colocation data centre.
"Now, we’re responding to market demands for neutral and independent data that helps with weighing up data centre operators across important colocation regions," Slattery said.
In the Oceania leaderboard, Equinix was followed by NextDC in second and Vocus Communications in third.
Equinix SY3 was ranked the top data centre in the region. Megaport was ranked as the top network fabric in Oceania and Sydney as the top data centre ecosystem.
In Oceania, 50 percent of the companies observed are public.
Equinix was also the leader in North America, EMEA and Asia. London-headquartered Global Switch secured top five spots in three of the four regions.
In this quarter’s leaderboard, the spread of connectivity was centralised to North America and EMEA. Of the more than 14,000 PoPs managed by the data centre operators, 41.6 percent were in North America, 40.4 percent in EMEA, 9.5 percent in Asia and 8.5 percent in Oceania.
Equinix, CoreSite, Global Switch, CenturyLink and Digital Realty were also ranked in the top five service providers with the most private and direct connections across all of their colocation facilities.
