Epson recalls projectors due to faulty mounting

Epson Australia has recalled many of its projectors due to defects related to their ceiling and wall mounting mechanisms.

In a notice posted on April 23rd, Epson recalled all projectors sold from 1 April 2012 to 28 March 2019, with the exception of its L, Z, LS and EV Series.

The notice said the projector’s plastic casing can be weakened when exposed to smoke, steam or vapours containing oils and solvents. The affected area of the casing is near where the projector is attached to the ceiling mount.

The weakened plastic may lead to cracks, which could make the projector fall from its mounting and possibly cause an injury to a user or a bystander.

The ACCC is urging customers who have the projectors installed in an environment such as near a kitchen or an exhaust extraction fan to contact Epson to seek advice and arrange for a site inspection where necessary.

Consumers with affected projectors will be given a free inspection service and the installation of a safety wire to secure the projector to the ceiling mount.
