Honeywell has launched the Captuvo SL62 'sled' designed to fit any version of the iPad Mini to date for retail, hospitality and field service.
When attached it allows the iPad mini to be used as a barcode scanner or scanner for loyalty cards, a tool for looking up inventory and access to transaction data via web or mobile apps. An optional magnetic stripe reader allows for card payments on the spot.
The case is desinged to protect the iPad mini from multiple four -foot drops and includes a removable 1150mAh li-ion battery.
Employees could use the device with an iPad to process payments and answer questions in shops away from a counter, said Honeywell scanning and mobility country manager for ANZ, Tony Repaci.
"It also allows retail stores and restaurants to have the flexibility to support BYOD applications during busy periods," Repaci said.
Available in early June, local suppliers Ingram Micro and Sektor will offer the Captuvo SL62 for $895 for the imager alone, or $999 for the imager and optional magnetic stripe reader.
