NSW mobile phone and electronics resellers have claimed the top four spots on the state government’s Fair Trading complaints register.
Topping the June list was Samsung with 42 complaints, followed by Kogan with 35 complaints, with Apple and Android Enjoyed rounding the top four with 33 and 26 complaints respectively.
The results mark a changing of the guard in the most besieged businesses in recent months, with Android Enjoyed having previously claimed the top spot on for four months running, a track record that has resulted in Fair Trading investigating appropriate enforcement against it.
“I’ve ensured Fair Trading is investigating allegations of misconduct against Android Enjoyed, and its parent company, Digital Marketing and Solutions,” better regulation minister Matt Kean said in June.
On the latest report, the minister said he would ensure Fair Trading explored all legal options against companies that continued to place “their own interests above those of consumers”.
“Fair Trading has multiple enforcement options including penalties of up to $1.1 million for corporations and $220,000 for individuals for misleading consumers,” he said.
“Any business that appears on the list is also assigned a case manager from Fair Trading to help guide them on improving their complaint handling procedures.”
NSW Fair Trading handles some 50,000 complaints every year, with its complaints register listing traders that are the subject of 10 or more complaints to the organisation in a calendar month.
