DXC Technology to create 50 jobs for TAFE students in Hobart

DXC Technology will get a five-year assistance package of $1.36 million from the Tasmanian government to continue creating jobs in the area.

This is an extension of the $1.7 million granted to UXC in May 2015 which helped create 50 jobs at the time.

The Tasmanian government expects the extension will create an extra 50 local jobs.

Treasurer Peter Gutwein said this would provide an opportunity for skilled IT locals to work on their field in their home state.

"Two years ago, we worked with DXC Technology to relocate from Sydney to Tasmania, creating fifty jobs. Now, we are working with them to effectively double their workforce to over 100 people," he said.

"This will help DXC Technology expand its Enterprise Delivery Centre and will help its Tasmanian operation become one of the leaders in its field in the Australia and New Zealand region." 

The package is being granted by the local government in partnership with the Tasmanian Development Board.

Our aim is to establish it as the premier Service Desk in Australia."

DXC Technology has helped to build a pathway for TAFE students in Tasmania to gain experience.

"Through work placement programs, we have helped build a pathway for TAFE students in Tasmania to gain real world experience and help them deliver more value in the workplace sooner. It will also help us continue to promote and enhance the calibre and skills of Tasmania’s technology workforce," Nayagam said.

He said that the students that had already gone through the program had received extremely positive customer feedback.

"The government’s commitment today reaffirms the success of our program and allows us to provide even better career opportunities for our workforce in Tasmania. Students joining the DXC Service Desk Centre of Excellence will benefit from fantastic career paths in areas including Microsoft Dynamics, Network Management, Systems Management and Desktop Engineering," Nayagam added.
