DWS hires CEO of Motorola partner Progility for top sales post
Campbell Johnston, DWS

DWS has hired Progility Technologies’ former CEO Campbell Johnston as its national sales manager.

Johnston brings a 27-year career in the technology sector to his new role, working in various management positions across several IT consulting organisations. According to DWS, he also has a background in banking and financial services.

Progility, a Melbourne-based radio communications solutions provider, was named by Motorola Solutions as its top partner in 2016, while Johnston was still chief executive.

Prior to his role with Progility, he served as managing director of Melbourne-based Leaders IT Systems from 2013 to 2015. Johnston also worked at SMS Management & Technology in various directorial posts in Australia and Vietnam from 2008 to 2013.

DWS also hired Malcolm Sheehan in August as national operations manager, who has over 20 years experience in digital media, advertising, sales and business systems and process implementation.

The two hires come after DWS lost its bid to acquire SMS in February. Perth-based ASG swooped in with an acquisition offer in May, ultimately outbidding the Melbourne company to the tune of $124 million in cash.

In the company’s 2017 annual report, DWS chairman Martin Ralston addressed company shareholders that it will continue to look for “suitable” acquisitions in 2018 and in the meantime will be focusing on shareholder returns and debt repayments.
