Popular cloud storage provider Dropbox this week launched its Australian channel program, citing a "huge opportunity" to tap into its four million strong global user base.
Dropbox's entry to the Australian channel follows a worldwide beta program which included XCentral and SYSGO in Australia.
With the relatively low price and simplicity of cloud services like Dropbox, the big question for resellers is what they'll get from partnering with the vendor.
Dropbox's head of channel sales and partnerships, Adam Nelson, argued it was an opportunity to generate new business with an "easy sale".
"It's a huge opportunity for partners to not only sell to existing clients but generate lots of new business, with short cycles and high conversion rates," he told CRN.
Resellers can expect "anywhere between 15-25 percent margin" every year selling Dropbox, Nelson said.
He said opportunities exist for resellers to provide active directory integration, integration with other applications and helping customers adjust to the new workflow.
"The support burden is very low. You can deploy this at a very low cost and keep your customer very happy. You can make your product bundle as an MSP much more sticky," he said.
Dropbox started their channel program in the US in June 2013, and now has 750 partners there.
"Over the last three months we've received thousands of requests from international IT providers to extend the channel program; a tonne of interest from IT solution providers, MSPs and VARs who were coming to us and saying their customers were asking for Dropbox in their businesses," said Nelson.
Resellers will have a portal where they can register deals, purchase on behalf of customers and manage customer accounts.
The channel program is another sign of Dropbox's increasing effort to sign up Australian businesses, with the company recently announcing it will open its first office in Australia.
