Dimension Data jumps into compliance

Dimension Data has developed a compliance management system to help government agencies and private business sectors ensure they don’t meet the same fate as HIH or Enron.

Peter Menadue, national business manager, application integration DiData said a range of global legislative issues meant public and private organisations needed to be compliant.

“After the debacle of HIH and Enron there have been greater demands from the corporate sector for business transparency and accountability.

“Directors of company’s are now liable for misleading the market and organisations need to show they are stable and accountable.”

DiData developed a compliance system for an Australian state government agency with responsibility for the administration of a range of commercial and public licenses, he said.

The product integrates in-bound data received – from sources including the agency’s licensing management system and global position system (GPS) data feeds – with the legislative framework for licensing compliance.

The system also extends to case investigation and management, following the procedures established by the legislation.

This includes ministerial reporting, judicial reporting and requirements for licensing infringement prosecutions.

He said after success of the current project would allow it to take the system to other government sectors in the next few months.

“Around May this year we will take the system to private businesses. We will begin with specific industry verticals such as professional services, financial services and we have had enquires from the health sector,” said Menadue.

Dimension Data worked together with Microsoft and K2.net to design and implement the solution from products including BizTalk Server 2006, SQL Server 2005, Office 2003, Business Scorecard Manager and K2.net 2003.

“All organisations have requirements for some form of compliance management. In some instances, effectively managing compliance is a core operational function for the organisation.

For example, many public sector agencies have, as a core aspect of their overall charter, a responsibility for the definition and management of compliance with specific government legislation,” he said.

The system also includes audit and reporting tools, Menadue said.
