Digital-only telco Circles.Life coming down under next month

Circles.Life is the latest telco pledging to shake up Australia’s mobile telco market when it launches down under next month.

Founded in 2016 the Singapore-based telco bills itself as “one of the world’s first digital telcos”. Circles.Life’s main selling point is Circles-X platform, a propriety “telco-in-the-cloud” technology stack that allows the company to automate the bulk of its systems. The system also allows Circles.Life to quickly spin up new products or make changes to its existing portfolio.

Circles.Life announced its plan to launch in Australia and four other countries six months ago, allocating S$50 million (A$54.82 million) for each country launch.

When Circles.Life does arrive in Australia, scheduled for some time early next month, the telco plans to offer no-contract plans, better quality service and a “100 percent digital experience”.

What we don’t know yet is which network operators Circles.Life is partnering with to actually deliver those digital services. Telcos in Australia have three choices for mobile services: Telstra, Optus and Vodafone, all of which operate their own networks and sell capacity to mobile virtual network operators.

We also don’t know whether Circles.Life will have a physical presence here in Australia. The company has more than 400 employees on its books globally, though offering a digital-only experience may not necessitate the need for Australian staff.

We’ve asked Circles.Life’s local PR about MVNO partnerships and Australian staff, and will update the story once we hear back.
