Dimension Data has boosted its managed security services practice with the acquisition of privately held security service provider Earthwave.
The deal, for an undisclosed amount, closed at the beginning of May, with all Earthwave staff coming over to the new entity.
Neil Campbell, director of solutions at Dimension Data, told CRN Earthwave's existing channel arrangements would remain in place.
“Those channel partners will take us into parts of the market we have not operated in before, such as amongst small and medium sized organisations.”
Campbell said the acquisition enhanced DiData’s existing managed security practice.
“We had a classic system integrator’s approach, but over time clients would come to us and ask for security services,” he said. “On that basis we developed managed secure infra services, an advanced form of risk management and security management around deployed technologies.”
The Earthwave deal would help assuage client uncertainty around managing their own security services.
“We will be able to pull all security infrastructure and servers together, along with routers and switches, and look at the data and have security analysts analyse the security infrastructure on behalf of clients,” he said. “On top of that, we can put into that mix a global threat feed [and] intelligence gained from live incidents around the world.”
Earthwave was founded in 2000, and has two existing Sydney-based security operations centres.
Earthwave founder and CEO Carlo Minassian will become Dimension Data’s general manager for managed security services, reporting to Darren O’Loughlin, general manager of connectivity and security solutions.
Minassian will continue to have responsibility for Earthwave, which will function as a separate business division of Dimension Data, maintaining its existing operations.
