Supply chain logistics specialist Dematic has rolled out a new wireless network for Quality Food Services' (QFS) new chiller, ambient and freezer distribution centre.
QFS is a food and beverage distributor based in South East Queensland. After experiencing a period of strong growth, it opened a new distribution centre, which needed a network to support the technology operating within the facility.
Having worked with QFS in the past, the Dematic was selected to deploy a new wireless access network for the distribution centre.
Dematic is a global supplier of integrated automated technology, software and services for supply chains. The company is based out of the US, but has operations in Australia and New Zealand.
Dematic managed the deployment, which included installing 18 new AP7522 access points with antennas from Extreme Networks as well as service contracts. In total, the project took eight weeks to complete.
While maintaining a cold environment is important for storing food, the temperature doesn't play as well for wireless access points. Dematic's sales team leader Mathew George said that the access points chosen are able to operate in QFS' freezer and chiller environments though.
"They are also rated up to 50°C, allowing them to be mounted on ceilings in ambient environments, which can see high temperatures in summer months,” George added.
QFS general manager Brian Saharin said the two organisations also had plans to roll out an integrated mobility solution for the distribution centre's operations.
“We had worked with Dematic previously and knew they were price competitive, and also trained and certified in the WLAN space. This gave us confidence that the project would be rolled out according to the design specification, both on time and as agreed,” Saharin said.
