Datrium takes first step into Australia

Converged infrastructure startup Datrium has quietly taken its first step into the Asia-Pacific region.

The move centres on a single person - Andre Leibovici, formerly a senior exec with Nutanix, VMware and EMC. Leibovici previously served as Datrium’s Field CTO and VP for Solutions and Alliances.

But he’s now taken to LinkedIn with a new title - Field CTO APJ – and posted that he’s moved to New Zealand for personal reasons.

Datrium CEO Tim Page told CRN the company “has not officially announced expansion into the APJ region” and that “Andre will be working remotely from the region in support of Datrium's Solutions Engineering and CTO Office efforts.”

But Page added that “With such an experienced and talented leader in the region, the company will surely become more active in the local market. There is lot of demand to expand and Datrium will do at the appropriate times.”

Datrium positions itself as next-generation hyperconverged infrastructure player and feels it can take out early HCI installations, or replace weightier converged infrastructure rigs. The company recently banked a US$60m fourth round of investment and announced formal expansion into Europe.
