Datadog to launch first Aussie data centre
Rob Thorne, Datadog.

Observability vendor Datadog plans to establish its first Australian data centre, designed to help local organisations meet privacy and security requirements through sovereign data storage and processing.

The new facility will be built on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, and adds to the company's existing data centres across North America, Asia, Europe and AWS GovCloud.

Rob Thorne, Datadog's vice president for Asia-Pacific and Japan, said Australia represents a high-priority market for the NASDAQ-listed monitoring and security platform provider.

"Datadog has experienced surging demand in Australia and New Zealand," Thorne said.

"Analysts forecast IT spend will reach A$147 billion this year, with cybersecurity, generative artificial intelligence and cloud services to receive significant attention."

The company currently serves more than 1,000 organisations across Australia and New Zealand, including businesses in banking, retail, technology and software-as-a-service sectors.

Flight Centre Corporate and SEEK are among Datadog's local clients.

The new data centre is expected to open in mid-2025 and will offer Datadog's full product lineup, with public sector, healthcare and higher education identified as key expansion verticals.
