Trans-Tasman security vendor CyberCX has added to its leadership team in New Zealand, in anticipation of increased public cloud availability from 2025 onwards.

The company has promoted Tom Khangura to director of cloud sales, tasking him with enhancing CyberCX New Zealand's strategy for sovereign secure cloud change and continuous compliance.

Meanwhile, Sven Ross has joined as executive director for managed security services, spearheading the company's growth strategy and capabilities in this area.

"New Zealand organisations continue to innovate through digital transformation, and the arrival of hyperscale public cloud providers on NZ shores provides new opportunities with local data residency, improved application performance and greater environmental sustainability", said Tim Sewell, chief executive of CyberCX New Zealand.

Sewell pointed to the importance of integrating cyber security into cloud transformation projects.

"Cloud transformation projects can help protect organisations and their customers from cyber threats, but it's vital that cyber security is an integral part of these projects to ensure these benefits are realised", he said.

The appointments aim to strengthen CyberCX's position in the market.

"CyberCX's strength is our ability to combine region-leading cyber security capabilities with a depth of cloud experience to help customers get the right outcome with cloud migrations."

"Appointing Tom to the director of cloud sales role and bringing Sven to New Zealand helps us do just that", Sewell added.

Ross brings over 25 years of experience in information technology, operational technology, and cyber security, along with leadership experience from the Australian Special Forces.

Khangura contributes more than a decade of cyber security and cloud experience across New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

"With both the AWS Public and Commercial Sector Businesses poised for a New Zealand region launch in 2025, I'm excited to be stepping into a role that will help New Zealand organisations unlock the benefits of cloud computing such as enhanced security, scalable infrastructure, and access to AI and machine learning services", Khangura said.

"New Zealand businesses can achieve greater agility, innovate faster, and respond more effectively to market demands," he added.

Ross said CyberCX has a strong presence across New Zealand, with 200 cloud and cyber security professionals in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch.

"Importantly, our state-of-the-art Security Operations Centres (SOC) in Auckland and Wellington deliver intelligence-led security operations services to our clients here in NZ and form critical nodes in our federated network of nine SOCs globally", he said.

Since its launch in New Zealand in 2020, CyberCX has steadily expanded its capabilities, service offerings, and workforce.

The company now offers extensive expertise across technical, professional, and managed services in cyber security and cloud.

These leadership announcements follow the recent opening of CyberCX's largest New Zealand workspace at 131 Queen Street in Auckland, further solidifying the company's commitment to the region.
