CRN online gets a Green makeover
Today, CRN launched a dedicated Green micro site dubbed The CRN Green IT Hub. The site is presented as a comprehensive resource on Green issues and promises to attract attention not only through informative content, but also its vibrant design.

Green is currently a buzzword in the Australian channel as companies scramble to add a Green tinge to their image. CRN is aware of the way this issue is reshaping the IT landscape, revealing in recent articles that organisations are diverting the focus of their R&D, changing their internal operations and formulating their own Green story.

Haymarket Media, parent company of CRN magazine, has been implementing eco-friendly practices for some time and claimed that the next step in its Green strategy is promoting awareness of environmental issues to the greater community, specifically the Australian IT industry.

“We continue to, where possible, seek the uppermost values both internally – be it electricity consumption and office recycling – and externally, where we are working with many of our suppliers to improve efficiencies and minimise environmental damage,” said Jeremy Vaughan, managing director, Haymarket Media Australia.

This commitment will be ramped up during the CRN Green Quarter, commencing today with the launch of the Green IT online component. In coming weeks, CRN will host a Golf Day and Breakfast Briefing to provide a setting for vendors, distributors and resellers to discuss Green topics.

Vaughan explained that raising awareness in this arena and working together are the key elements in achieving a more sustainable future.

“It’s all about education and the more we are exposed to the better we will be – its not one person it’s a team that will make a significant reduction on our carbon footprint,” said Vaughan.

The Hub features the latest environmental news, a variety of initiatives that IT companies can join, and details about several Green products on the market. To encourage open dialogue on the issues concerning the channel, the CRN team post regular blogs where visitors can voice their opinion.

Until recently, the term Green IT has been hiding behind ambiguity as various interpretations emerge of what constitutes being eco-friendly. The Hub is a practical resource aimed at clarifying the concept of Green IT, providing an understanding of the drivers behind the movement and assisting the channel in being involved in this space.
