Converging on the elderly

Converged Networks and Nortel nPower have teamed up to build a communications network for WA-based Anglican Homes.

The aged care provider will receive a network covering, 19 Anglican Homes’ sites and replaces its existing network with a single network infrastructure.

Each site will be connected to the head office over a DSL link and the solution incorporates Gigabit network with Power over Ethernet (PoE) to every desktop.

Luke Zappara Converged Networks specialist said the building of a network from the ground up was challenging, he said.

“We are using Nortel BCM’s support for a wide range of endpoints – such as digital, IP and WLAN telephones.”

Other solutions being used include Nortel’s Business Communications Manager (BCM) for the voice and WAN routing, Nortel Ethernet Routing Switches for the data switching, Nortel 2300 series wireless LAN and Voice-over-WLAN (VoWLAN) handsets, and Nortel’s Enterprise Management Network software.

Anglican Homes will also have technical support from Converged Network’s help desk.

The total cost is expected to reach $1m once all 19 sites have been rolled out, said Anglican Homes.
