Citrix Systems has appointed Toby Knight as its director of desktop technologies.
In the newly created role, Knight will be responsible for developing strategies for both customers and channel partners.
Based in Sydney, Knight will report directly to report directly to Peter Brockhoff, area vice president of Citrix A/NZ.
Knight said he will be working even closer with partners and customers to continue the XenApp line and "drive innovation" through products like XenDesktop and XenClient.
"Our existing partners provide critical managed services to customers," he said. "[Going direct] isn't correct because we leverage the channel to expand our desktop products."
He believed resellers were an important part to the vendor's strategy to focus on 1500 customers in Australia that have 1000 seats within the organisation.
"We are looking at working with partners closely to corner ... these businesses," said Knight.
But Knight denied speculation that the strategy also involved major changes to Citrix's rebate and rewards programs for resellers.
"We are making significant investment in training for our partners," he said.
Before accepting the new position, Knight was the senior manager of systems engineering and managed partners for Citrix for over two years.
During that time he was responsible for leading the systems engineering team and providing enablement and direction for partners.
Knight has also worked for integrators Dimension Data and Gen-i. He said working on the other side of the channel helped him to develop a "broader range of experience".
