Citrix has unveiled a desktop-as-a-service solution for Azure-hosted businesses called Citrix Managed Desktops.
The service launched on Wednesday and is expected to be generally available, including Australia, on 26 August 2019, on either a monthly or term basis.
Citrix ANZ director for sales engineering Safi Obeidullah told CRN service is hosted locally in Australia since the launch included all of the vendor’s control planes.
The solution provisions Windows-based applications and desktops from the cloud to any device, and works for customers of any size. It also allows their employees to work from whichever device they prefer.
Citrix said the service was delivered “in close collaboration” with some of its channel partners, providing feedback during the development process and participating in a tech preview program.
Partners can also white-label Managed Desktops, enabling them to build customised services directly on top of the service through a built-in multi-tenant management user interface. They are also able to integrate desktops with on-prem Active Directory and other corporate resources, as well as deploy and manage workloads in multiple regions where needed.
Obeidullah said Australian pricing hasn’t been finalised yet, but revealed that there is a 25-user minimum for anyone using the service. He said partners should expect more features towards the end of the year help support service providers, like those who would like to build out a multi-tenant platform.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Citrix senior director for product marketing, desktop and applications group Carisa Stringer said organisations can “quickly and easily” provide employees with access to their individual desktops and all the applications and corporate resources they need.
“Work today isn’t confined to physical offices or traditional devices. It happens around the clock and globe on everything from PCs and laptops to phones, tablets and even watches,” Stringer said.
