WebEx has introduced an online meeting application for RIM's BlackBerry smartphone devices, enabling users to join online meetings and view shared documents while on the go.
Available as a free download, the Cisco WebEx Meeting Center application for BlackBerry makes it easy and intuitive for BlackBerry users to join and participate in WebEx online meetings, the firm said.
The move makes good on Cisco's undertaking last year to extend WebEx access to various mobile platforms, including BlackBerry, Nokia and Samsung handsets.
"This mobile application makes participating in online meetings accessible for the millions of BlackBerry users who rely on Cisco WebEx for collaboration. It's very user friendly and completely intuitive," said Debra Chrapaty, senior vice president of Cisco's Collaboration Software group.
Users can directly download the application, or will be prompted to do so if they click on the meeting URL in an email or a calendar invitation.
When they click on the meeting URL, the WebEx audio conferencing system will call them back to join the meeting, and the visual portion of the meeting is automatically launched when they answer.
The WebEx application runs on Qwerty or touch-screen BlackBerry devices with BlackBerry OS 4.6 or greater, such as the Bold 9700, Bold 9000, Storm 9550, Storm 9500, Curve 8900 and Tour 9630.
