Networking technology company Cisco and industrial automation specialist Rockwell Automation have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on digital transformation of the industrial market.

The two will focus on the Asia-Pacific region, along with Japan and Greater China, with technologies and services that enable manufacturers to optimise operations, enhance productivity and ensure the security of industrial networks.

Cisco and Rockwell Automation will facilitate solutions such as connected factories and industrial Internet of Things (IoT) as advanced automation solutions.

Kartika Prihadi, Cisco's vice president of partners and routes to market sales said that by joining forces with Rockwell Automation, the two companies aim tp empower industrial enterprises with cutting-edge secure connectivity solutions that drive operational efficiency, enhance productivity, and unlock new growth opportunities.

By leveraging Rockwell Automation's partnerships with universities in the region, and Cisco's Network Academy program, the two companies will work towards training and building a talent pool to address the digital skills gap in the manufacturing sector.

Cisco's Networking Academy is a long-standing program that provides skills for jobs, with IT and cybersecurity courses, learning simulators, and hands-on opportunities via an education platform that supports instructors and and students in 190 countries.

Students who have taken certification courses have a high, 95 per cent rate of getting jobs or education opportunities, if they go through the Cisco Networking Academy.
