Cisco accidentally shipped appliances without OS installed

Cisco accidentally shipped out some of its Firepower 1000 Series firewall appliances without a proper OS installation.

The issue was caused by a manufacturing test script error, which led appliances manufactured prior to 22 July 2019 with an incomplete installation of the Firepower software.

It won’t be a major inconvenience for customers. Affected units will automatically initiate a reinstallation of the software image during the initial boot up, which can take between 20 – 30 minutes. Customers just need to know that a green SYS LED on the front panel of their appliance will blink during installation, and will become solid once the installation is completed.

Customers don’t need to take any further action beyond that, but if the software does fail to install, Cisco has provided instructions to fix the problem.

Customers can also validate whether their appliance is affected using Cisco’s online serial number validation tool.

The Cisco Firepower 1000 Series is a family of three next-gen firewall security platforms intended for small business customers.
