CIMIC company Leighton Asia wins large hyperscaler data centre deal

Sydney-based CIMIC Group said its subsidary Leighton Asia has been awarded a contract by Singapore's ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, to deliver phase 1 of the STT Fairview 1 data centre development in Quezon City, Philippines.

Leighton Asia and First Balfour of the Philippines will construct the data centre in a joint venture.

Fully built out, the STT Fairview data centre campus is expected to have 83,000 square metres across four buildings.

The total campus capacity is planned to reach 124 megawatts.

“Leighton Asia is excited to be part of this significant project for our valued client, building on our growing portfolio in the data centre sector, with projects across the regions where we operate," Leighton Asia managing director Brad Davey said.

To reduce the carbon footprint, STT Fairview will use hollow-core concrete slabs, recycled steel and high-density polyethylene 3 piping.

STT GDS also said the new data centre will have the ability to house liquid-cooled solutions and servers based on customer requirements, which particularly in the tropics can substantially reduce energy consumption and water usage.

The data centre will meet international standards such as LEED Gold certification form the US Green Building Council, Uptime Institute Tier III, and TIA-942 Rated 3.

The value of the project was not disclosed.
