Fire and security company Chubb Australasia has dumped an enterprise resource planning (ERP) project, involving software vendor PeopleSoft, which could see 97 staff and contractors lose their jobs.
The project, code-named Atlas, was closed 'because no realistic business model and benefits could justify the investment,' according to a statement emailed to iTnews.
'The new management of Chubb has assessed that the extremely ambitious objectives of Atlas could not be successfully met with the current diversity of Chubb business models and processes, without investing considerable additional resources in the project,' it stated.
Chubb spokesperson Michelle Cockrill said that 97 staff and contractors would be impacted by the project's closure. She said that it could be possible that people would be made redundant but, where roles were available, Chubb employees would be taken back into the business. 'We are committed to treating all employees fairly in this process,' Cockrill said.
Cockrill would not reveal the value of the Atlas project.
Tanya Brown, a spokesperson from PeopleSoft, said that the vendor believed the reasons for the project being closed was because of a change in the management of the organisation, both locally and globally. Brown said that this had meant a necessary review of Chubb's current and future IT projects and investments.
