Somerville House used D-Link enterprise-level xStack Gigabit, 10 gigabit thernet switches and storage area network arrays in an infrastructure upgrade.
The upgrade paved the way for 802.11n wireless network access, offering better range, faster connection speeds and voice over IP telephony, claimed the school.
"With the increased networking demands of 802.11n wireless networking and VoIP, gigabit ethernet and power over ethernet to every data connection point begins making a lot of sense," said Mona Taimana, who at the time of the project was Somerville's director of IT.
"With that comes the need to ensure that your backbone is up to speed and so 10 gigabit to your main aggregation points becomes increasingly important," he said.
Taimana and Michael del Manso, who also worked at Somerville as network manager during the D-Link upgrade, launched Serenity IT Solutions in July to provide services to the education market. They contracted back to Somerville, which became one of their first clients.
Somerville House had also outgrown its existing data storage solution and was looking to improve its disaster recovery capabilities.
"Data storage requirements for the school were on the increase and our existing solution was quickly drawing to the end of its lease cycle," said del Manso.
D-Link won the contract to upgrade Somerville House's existing Fast Ethernet network with enterprise-level, xStack Gigabit Ethernet Switches with PoE.
Its xStack Gigabit Ethernet Switch with integrated 10 gigabit support was also used to replace the school's core switch to add 10 gigabit per second networking capabilities.
