CA looks to new horizons in Australian channel
CA's senior director of partner sales, Carl Terrantroy

The local arm of the global giant CA Technologies is seeking new channel partners in mobility, AWS and cloud management.

Senior director of partner sales, Carl Terrantroy, told CRN that the three categories were identified as growth areas for CA and its Australian channel.

"We have 15 products under the mobile area – all released within the last year or so," said Terrantroy. "We are now looking for partners that are exclusive for mobile products."

Terrantroy cited RXP's acquisition of Tasmanian integrator Insight4 as an example of a reseller showing its intent for mobile devices. CA is currently in talks with RXP about its new mobile capabilities.

CA Technologies' software appliance inbuilt within Amazon Web Services is another product that is short of partner representation.

"We need to find AWS systems integrators," Terrantroy told CRN. "API development is seeing massive growth and to that end our software appliance can do with partners that deploy services on AWS."

Management clouds were listed as the third partner expansion opportunity by Terrantroy.

"Products like Nimsoft, which does monitoring, can be leveraged by cloud management partners," he said.

Terrantroy said that as recently as five years ago channel activity was negligible for CA Technologies' local operations, but now about 50% of business was coming through partners.

"Back five years ago, there was no [channel] strategy and it was pretty much bespoke business only," he told CRN.

The channel boss said that the US multinational still maintains a strong local presence in its traditional bread-and-butter field of mainframes, but the current CEO has made a push for newer products to be rolled out in the last 18 months.

The 38-year-old vendor has its local headquarters in North Ryde, Sydney. The global company is forecasting a 1 to 2 percent decrease in its current year revenue to approximately US$4.5 billion.
