Brisbane Byte Power launches Hong Kong HP deal

Brisbane reseller Byte Power has agreed to on-sell HP product in Hong Kong via its local subsidiary.

In the deal, HP Hong Kong signed Byte Power (HK) as an accredited business partner and promised marketing support, tactical margin enhancement, technical training, support and customer financing.

Byte Power -- which resells hardware, software, and telecommunications -- opened its Hong Kong office late in March and expects to earn $1.6 million from that base for the China and Hong Kong markets in the first year, the company said.

Alvin Phua, CEO of Byte Power Group, said in a statement that the reseller - whose Australian customers include SMBs, corporations and government -- aimed to grow its new and existing relationships with medium and large organisations in Asia.

The company also planned to work closely with Queensland's Hong Kong Trade and Investment Office to promote its Australian Technology Showcase status, Phua said.

The Australian Technology Showcase is a Federal government initiative to push innovative technologies - including IT-in Australia and overseas.

Byte Power's own-brand Mediator network monitoring device - which measures heat, humidity, water and smoke in network environments as well as the usual parameters -- has proven successful in Australia, Singapore and Malaysia, the company said.

Mediator had been sold to large Malaysian credit card company MBF, and Malaysian carriers, including Telekom Malaysia and MAXIS, Byte Power said.

Byte Power would also exhibit at the Hong Kong international ICT expo 14 to 16 April, it said.

Byte Power Group reported revenues from ordinary activities of $11.578 million for the half-year ending 31 December 2003, up from $5.9 million in the same period last year.

The company made an operating loss after income tax of $2.0 million for the half-year, down from its $10.7 million operating loss after income tax for the previous corresponding period.

Byte Power Group had restructured and consolidated its operations over that year, including selling off non-core subsidiary Able Air Mechanical Services and re-locating from Perth to Brisbane.

It has six offices overseas, including Hong Kong, and vendor relationships with IBM, Intel, Apple, Hitachi, OKI, Seagate, HP and Mitsubishi.

Byte Power had not returned phone enquiries at press-time.
