BlueJeans acquires talent from YouTube founders' new company MixBit

BlueJeans Network has acquired select engineering resources from MixBit, the social media platform founded by two of YouTube's co-founders.

MixBit was founded by Steve Chen and Chad Hurley in 2014 as a video sharing service focusing on mobile devices that competed with the likes of Instagram and Vine, though the platform is no longer available to download.

BlueJeans didn't specify which engineering resources and "other assets" it bought from MixBit, but said the acquisition would help fulfil its desire to bring consumer-like experience to enterprise users and enhance mobile and tablet use in meeting rooms.

MixBit already has experience with video conferencing solutions, having recently built a product called Zeen aimed specifically at mobile users.

As a result of the acquisition, BlueJeans will open its first office in New Zealand with members of the MixBit joining, while other staff work from the cloud communication software vendor's offices in California.

“The MixBit team are world class mobile video product visionaries, designers and developers," said BlueJeans VP of strategic alliances and business development Matt Collier.

"I am thrilled that they will be joining the BlueJeans team and working to deliver the best mobile video collaboration experience in the industry. At BlueJeans we have always been driven to enable people to meet and collaborate from where they are, with whatever communication device they prefer.”
