BlackBerry outage hits Europe

Millions of people across Europe, the Middle East and Africa were left without BlackBerry email, messaging or Twitter on Monday after a server outage knocked out services.

Research in Motion's Slough data centre was hit by a network server outage on Monday morning European time, according to reports.

The outage affected carriers across the EMEA region, which issued statements on Monday advising their customers that the outage was not their fault, but RIM’s, according to The Telegraph

Earlier Monday RIM turned to its British BlackBerry Twitter account to advise customers it was investigating the cause of complaints as users began reporting troubles on Twitter.

On Monday evening, it issued an apology, however it has not clarified when it expects services to resume. Around 10 million BlackBerry users are affected, according to the Financial Times

“Our sincere apologies to all of you affected by today’s BlackBerry service issues,” BlackBerry Britain said.
