Barbeques Galore taps Sydney's mcr IT for infrastructure refresh

Sydney-based managed services provider mcr IT has delivered an IT infrastructure uplift for Barbeques Galore.

Barbeques Galore, which has over 90 stores across Australia, sought the uplift to help facilitiate plans to expand by 6-8 more stores.

Due to aging infrastructure, the company was facing a bottleneck with bandwidth and backups, which were taking over a day to complete on average.

"We were experiencing a lot of growth, and we identified that our aging IT infrastructure was not going to handle the demands," said Barbeques Galore's systems administrator, who the company did not name in its case study.

"We needed more bandwidth, faster backups and a trusted provider who could complete the project with minimal disruption to our operations."

mcr IT had delivered a refresh for Barbeques Galore in 2015 to consolidate its infrastructure, migrate to HPE servers and move from a VMWare environment to a Microsoft Hyper-V environment.

The latest refresh took place over six months and featured HPE Gen 10 servers, Veeam Backup and Recovery, HPE Nimble Storage and a Microsoft Hyper-V platform.

The inclusion of 10-gigabit cards addressed critical bandwidth requirements.

The upgrade significantly improved scalability and performance, with user experience enhancements and a 50 per cent reduction in backup times to decrease bottlenecks.

"With our core IT Infrastructure refreshed and mcr IT continuing as an essential part of our business, we are confident that our business can grow and adapt to suit the ever-changing market demands," the systems administrator said.
