Bank picks Adelaide reseller Logi-Tech for backup overhaul

Systems integrator Logi-Tech is upgrading the data management systems for the People's Choice Credit Union (PCCU).

Logi-Tech rolled out an Actifio solution to update PCCU's backup and disaster recovery systems, including a support contract for 12 months.

The credit union said it had increased competitiveness and reduced costs by working with Actifio.

PCCU's data needs have dramatically increased in recent years, due to the merger of its two heritage credit unions and the launch this year of internet banking enhancements and a smartphone application.

Peter Moore, managing director and founder of Logi-Tech, said the update would cover its own costs within three to four years by generating efficiencies, reducing upgrade costs and by potentially allowing employees to be re-tasked.

"They were using traditional backups and they had run out of [storage] real estate," Moore said. "They were looking to buy more disks or look at a solution like this."

Logi-Tech recommended Actifio for its storage efficiency and its ability to handle the credit union's backup and disaster recovery.

David Hombsch, credit union's head of technology services and project management, said the benefits of Acitfio were quickly evident.

"Within the first few weeks, it was clear we had developed an advantage over our competition in the way we manage application data across the business," Hombsch said.

Logi-Tech's Moore told CRN the solution was installed and configured within four days.

Moore founded Logi-Tech 27 years ago in South Australia. The company, which employs 60 staff, works with subcontractors in remote WA, SA and NT.

"We find [the company] grows in stages every three years. We've had dramatic growth, for example, we grew quickly from 15 to 30 staff," he said.

Despite the growth, Moore said he would not expand interstate. "We have strategic relationships and we wouldn't compromise that. We respect our partners."
