South Australian-based network software developer Foursticks has appointed content filtering outfit 8e6 Technologies as its first major North American distributor, in a deal worth $4.5 million over two years.
Under an OEM licensing agreement, 8e6 will release Foursticks' NP Gateway policy-based networking monitoring and performance management software as a standalone appliance, the company said.
Paul Myer, president at 8e6 said there's an increasing need for monitoring and management of bandwidth use in enterprise and education networks. 'Foursticks approaches the problem from a network performance viewpoint, ensuring that applications that bring most value to the business are flagged and given priority access to the network,' Myer said. 'That makes an ideal fit with our content filtering and we believe the combination will give both companies a competitive lead.'
Foursticks CTO Alan Noble -- formerly VP of engineering at NASDAQ-listed Pumatech -- said 8e6 was a strong technology partner and channel to market. 'Our technology roadmaps are already closely aligned and we have agreed on a joint two-year roadmap.'
David Bohn, Foursticks founder, said the deal provides 8e6 an opportunity to up-sell into an existing Fortune 1000 customer base. '8e6's markets are very similar to our own, being organisations with large, distributed networks running multiple applications. Many of [its] customers are starting to put in place rudimentary network performance already so are looking for a solution,' he said.
