International law firm Ashurst has appointed Terri Mottershead as director in its NewLaw division, Ashurst Advance, to lead global digital transformation efforts.

Mottershead will head Ashurst's global Digital Enablement team from Brisbane, focusing on elevating digital and data literacy across the firm.

The appointment draws on her three decades of experience in legal transformation spanning private practice, academia, and consulting.

"Terri is widely recognised for being one of the leading voices in innovation and technology in the legal industry," Hilary Goodier, partner and global head of Ashurst Advance, said.

"Her unique blend of practical legal expertise and academic insight will be invaluable as we continue to push the boundaries of digitally enabled legal service delivery," Goodier said.

Mottershead joins from the Centre for Legal Innovation at the College of Law Australia, where she served as inaugural executive director.

In that role, she collaborated with legal sector leaders to identify trends, craft strategies, and transform organisations to meet rapidly changing industry demands.

"Leading the Digital Enablement team is a fantastic opportunity to help shape the future of legal services and support the firm for the AI era," Mottershead said.

Her appointment expands Ashurst Advance's Digital practice group to four directors.

Mottershead joins Arjuna Guruge, Sarah Chambers and Chris Boulter, who cover Digital Enablement, Development, eDiscovery & Digital Services, and Digital Experience.
