Western Sydney Apple enthusiasts were next in line for a company-owned Apple store following the appearance of online job advertisements for Penrith, recently.
Vacancies included Apple store leader, business leader and for the Genius bar, Apple's customer support area. There was, however, no indication of the date the jobs would be made available.
Penrith is fifty kilometres west of Sydney’s central business district and at least 30 kilometres away from Apple's newest bricks and mortar shop in Castle Hill in north-west Sydney.
If history is an indication of Apple's strategy, Apple was recruiting for its Castle Hill shop over a month before it opened its doors. Penrith would be Sydney’s fifth shop.
To the west, the closest authorised Apple Reseller that Apple could compete with was Userland Australia in Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, but even that was about 50 kilometres away.
Instead, mass-merchant and electronic houses in Penrith, Dick Smith, Bing Lee, and Harvey Norman could feel the pinch of added competition.
