Amazon Web Services overhauls channel reseller program for MSPs

Amazon Web Services is rebranding its channel reseller program to incentive partners to specialise in areas such as managed services.

The program will be renamed to the AWS Solution Provider Program, global channel lead Terry Wise said in his keynote speech at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas on Tuesday.

The new program will introduce three new additions, which Wise said would help to recognise and incentivise those partners that specialise in a particular service.

These include a new contracting model for partners and customers to contract AWS services; recognition for partners that provide high-quality support to customers with a new support model; and a tiered incentive structure that recognises partners that specialise in managed services, migration and DevOps.

Wise said that AWS would also further invest in partners that work on the front end to bring new opportunities to AWS’ cloud.

“Collectively, these three areas are going to give our channel partners the opportunity to substantially improve the profitability of your business,” Wise said.

The new program will go live next year, with more details to be announced in January.

AWS also announced two new partner competencies during the global partner summit keynote launching today: a networking competency program and a machine learning program.

The networking competency is for partners with validated solutions and across software-defined networking, intelligent routing, secure connectivity and networking monitoring. The competency already has 18 partners, including Telstra.

Wise said next year will see the introduction of even more competencies including blockchain, containers, end-user compute and cloud management tools.
