Managed services provider Harbour IT has deployed a Pure Storage all-flash solution for the Collingwood Football Club.
Collingwood will now use Pure Storage’s FlashArray//M system in a VMware vSphere environment to deliver realtime insights to the club by analysing datasets collected from players around their fitness and performance. The club makes use of this data with the help of its analytics partner Champion Data, to support the coach’s decision making.
On-field data collection points and sensors record kicks, marks, handballs and collect scoring intel for each team on the field. The information can be used to dynamically map strategic plays that offer the best chance of success. The data is also used to create custom post-game reports the team can use to reflect on the details of their performance.
Collingwood FC operations manager Marcus Wagner said the team needed a system that was reliable and scalable.
“Pure Storage ticked all our boxes, offering the best performance and capacity to enable greater productivity across every aspect of our business,” he said. “More important is the fact that Pure’s solution is almost maintenance-free from a system administration perspective, allowing us to focus our time and efforts on the field.”
The flash array has allowed the club to move away from its limited capacity legacy system, which required constant trimming to keep up and running.
Pure Storage Australia and New Zealand regional vice president Mike Sakalas said speed was vital when dealing with sport-related data delivery.
