Partners throwing axes and drinking. What could possibly go wrong?

Tradewinds recently invited partners to an afternoon of axe-throwing and craft beer drinking. CRN understands beer. But the axe-throwing thing intrigued us, so we tagged along to figure out what on earth was going on ...

The inner-Sydney suburb of St Peters is home to two unique venues that happen to share a building. One is craft brewery Willie the Boatman, famous for some mighty tasty beer. And next door is Maniax, an axe-throwing establishment that offers players the chance to literally bury the hatchet … in a wooden target.

Here’s how axe-throwing works. You take up a hatchet, toss it overhand at the target and hope it lands in the middle for maximum points. Players throw three axes apiece, across three rounds. Maniax has marks on the floor and weights its axes so they should leave the hand, flip a couple of times and then bury their blades into the slightly-damp wood. If all goes well, this is the result: a bullseye and five points! Less-accurate throws score three or one points. There's also a pair of small dots at the top corners of thet targtets. Nominate to hit that, then do so, and you score seven points!
