Optus opened the doors to its first flagship store in George Street Sydney on Friday. The telco said it was the first of five stores intended to put smart home devices into the hands of customers to try out.
The new store is called Optus on George and is located at 383 George Street, directly opposite the Sydney headquarters of rival Telstra, and next to Apple's flagship Sydney store. Optus plans to open five experimental stores this year.
Customers are welcomed with a Google Home setup in a mock living room.
Customers can take a look inside a demo smart kitchen equipped with a D-Link wi-fi enabled kettle, Samsung smart fridge and Philips Hue smart lights.
Currently on display is a Samsung smart fridge with cameras inside that allows customers to see what groceries they have while away from home.
No smart home is complete without a wi-fi-enabled frying pan.
The Kwikset Kevo Smart Lock can be controlled through a smartphone, allowing customers to open a door remotely.
The current in-store experience lets you challenge Usain Bolt to take the best selfie.
Optus said the store will also cater to small business solutions, and will have an SMB expert onsite
Optus also has the latest mobile devices, VR headsets and tablets on show. The store will be used as a location for major upcoming product releases, such as the iPhone X later this year.
Optus said it was the first store in Australia to be equipped with access to 4.5G technology.
Optus chief executive Allen Lew made an appearance to officially open the store on Friday.
The new store employs 46 staff.
