What VDI do you deploy?

VMware Horizon with View bundled with UniDesk for application management. From a hardware perspective, Nimble Storage and Nutanix.

When did your company first get involved in VDI? 

Two years. VDI has become a focus point for Aliva. We’re also one of few VMware End User Compute partners.

Who are your main distributors or suppliers for VDI?

Ingram Micro, Nutanix, Nimble Storage and Avnet.

Tell us about some cool VDI technology

VMware Horizon is centralising application-delivery regardless of platform. For example, there is now one pane of glass to see Citrix applications, thin applications and remote desktop connections. This feature is available in version 6.0.  

Can you tell us about a recent VDI deployment you have done?

Bentleys Queensland partnered with Aliva and VMware to provide an aggregated workspace platform giving employees private, direct access to their desktop, applications and data from any device, anywhere, any time.

What is driving customers towards VDI? 

The driving force for customers looking at VDI as a solution is the ability to offer BYOD while maintaining a common desktop environment that is secure and manageable. Another driving force is mobility, with users able to have their desktop everywhere, any time.

The ability to offer a virtual desktop to any device, embracing BYOD and mobility, which are growing requirements in today’s workforce.
