How Victorian firm Interconnekt provides backup and DR
Jacob Kino

We speak with managing director Jacob Kino.

Who are your backup and disaster recovery vendors?

Our primary vendor partners are Veeam and StorageCraft and we have built strong, longstanding partnerships with both vendors.

When did your company first get involved in this area?

We have provided hosted and hybrid hosted backup, disaster recovery and business continuity solutions for around five years. The model has evolved as clients moved into our ConnektCloud VMware-based offering.

What are your credentials in this area?

We have highly certified engineers who have trained on all the technologies we use, but I think the real value we provide is a strong base of experience with everything from small to enterprise environments with a similar breadth of requirements.

Who are your main distributors?

We work with most of the majors. Rhipe supplies us with most of our subscription-based licensing.

Heard about any cool developments recently?

We have been beta testing an object-based storage offering that’s API compatible with Amazon S3. This opens opportunities and use cases, and can scale from very small file-based backups to very large, unstructured data sets.

Can you tell us about a recent deployment you have done?

We recently retired a physical disaster recovery site for a local council and replaced it with our ConnektProtect virtual business continuity/disaster recovery solution. The customer got to reclaim an entire room, turn off the air-con which had been running 24/7 and avoid replacement of the equipment.

What’s driving customers’ backup and DR projects?

There are two main drivers: first, that almost no business regardless of size can sustain a significant data loss event without serious consequences; the second driver is the ever-evolving threat landscape and the proliferation of malware, particularly ransomware.

Backup and disaster recovery is...?

A core business function – businesses need to realise that it must be treated as such.
