Sunshine Coast ISP Zennet International – which traded as Fibre Waves – has been wound up by IP security distributor Lan1, part of Hills Limited.
A liquidator from Deloitte was appointed earlier this month, ordering Zennet to reimburse Lan1 $7,000 for the cost of legal proceedings.
CRN has tried to contact Zennet director Evan Price but he did not respond to request for comment. Zennet and Fibre Waves' websites have since been removed.
Another company, Fibre Waves Sunshine Coast, has since been served a winding-up notice by advertising firm Go Transit.
It is not the first time bad news has followed Fibre Waves – a long thread in broadband forum Whirpool is dedicated to the company.
According to unverified complaints on Whirlpool, Fibre Waves falsely advertised 'wireless optic fibre' connections that matched NBN speeds.
One user posted: "They're using hugely misleading slogans/phrases to make it sound like you'd have a connection as fast as fibre. Of course it uses fibre, all (well most) fixed wireless services use fibre for the backhaul from the tower. That by no means, [means] there is fibre being installed anywhere near your home. They put an antenna on your roof which sends and receives signal from a tower via LoS (line of sight)."
Zennet director Evan Price has now registered the domain for a new wireless ISP, Z1 Wholesale, which advertises fixed wireless, internet, Ethernet and voice services.
Lan1, Deloitte and Go Transit were all approached for comment.
