Flash vendor Pure Storage has posted a massive 700 percent revenue growth in 2013 as it also announced a former Polycom and EMC executive as its new vice president of Asia Pacific and Japan.

Michael Alp departed his role as president of Polycom Asia Pacific after just over a year to take up the Pure Storage position.

Before that, Alp was vice president of Asia Pacific and Japan for EMC's Backup & Recovery System. According to Pure Storage, Alp will be responsible for acquiring new talent and channel partners to support and promote its growth in Asia.

"To be joining Pure Storage's talented team is an honour and I look forward to extending its leadership and commitment to delivering transformative solutions to businesses and government across the APJ region," said Alp in a statement.

Alp has a long history in sales and the channels business, having served multiple stints at EMC as well as Data Domain, Teradata, Oracle, and NCR.

Meanwhile, Michael Cornwell, who set up Pure Storage in this region, has been appointed the company's chief technology officer for Asia Pacific and Japan.

The local changes come as Pure Storage posted sales numbers that show the market is adopting flash storage at a brisk rate.

"Enterprise flash adoption is occurring even more rapidly than analysts predicted," said Pure Storage CEO Scott Dietzen. "We set extremely ambitious sales and product development goals for 2013, and I'm pleased to report that we exceeded them all."

The upstart company cites sales statistics since its $150 million fundraising in August to back up its bullish outlook: 700% year-on-year revenue growth in 2013; 650% year-on-year growth in customer numbers; 45% of bookings coming from repeat customers; and deployment of 10-plus Pure FlashArrays.
