Huawei Ascend P1 set for Australian launch

Huawei will launch its dual-core Ascend P1 smartphone to Australia and wider Asia in May.

It is yet to confirm pricing or carriers.

The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone represents the first high-end Huawei handset release locally. The company is traditionally known for its budget smartphones, most recently unveiling the $279 Vision to Australian customers.

The P1 boasts a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM and 4.3in Super AMOLED 960x540px 256ppi screen. It packs an 8MP 1080p rear and 1.3MP 720p front camera into a 7.69mm thick body, including 1670mAh battery.

Huawei recently showed off its latest and “world’s fastest” smartphone creation at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress. For the quad-core Ascend D, Huawei moved away from Nvidia’s Tegra 3 silicon to a custom-made K3V2 chip.
