HP’s release today of the all-in-one Z1 desktop will “bring the business to new heights” and cement its position as the leading PC maker in the world, according to PSG head Todd Bradley.
The company touted the latest in its Workstation line of products as the "most innovative" in the line, and a “power without the tower”.
“We didn’t really know if we should do it, and we didn’t really know how to do it,” HP’s vice president of commercial solutions Jim Zafarane said. “You have to put real workstation technology in this form factor. We laid down the criteria and it was very clear: we wanted an all-in-one form factor, with the essence of a Z workstation, and no compromise on performance.”
“We believe the Z1 will drive an experience like no other. It will redefine the workspace.”
The Z1 is targeted at the mechanical, design, media, entertainment and higher education verticals. It will start shipping worldwide and in Australia in early April, with prices starting from $1899 for a basic configuration.
The 27 inch PC boasts a tool-less chassis in what HP is claiming as a first for the mobile market.
It supports Windows 7 as well as several configurations of Linux, comes with two Intel Xeon processors, upgradeable Nvidia Quadro graphics, support for over 1 billion colours, ECC memory and a three-year warranty.
HP said future models may ship with touch functionality.
