RIM quiet on BlackBerry phone ditching

RIM has refused to comment on reports suggesting two phones planned for launch in 2012 have been ditched.

Rumours are swirling two of three phones have been cancelled, including one featuring the new QNX, or BlackBerry 10, operating system: the touchscreen Milan phone and the QWERTY-keyboard Colt device. The London model is reportedly set to stay.

RIM declined a request for comment from IT Pro.

The news follows December reports noting RIM had delayed the launch of its QNX handsets.

The company was set to release several QNX phones this year. The only device it currently offers running the OS is the PlayBook tablet.

RIM recently revealed the tablet had not met sales targets, thanks in part to user complaints around the tablets' inability to run BBM and BlackBerry Enterprise Server for email, and had cost the company $485 million.
