Aus Post urges public to avoid non-essential mail

Australia Post has asked the public to avoid sending non-essential mail to and from flood-affected areas to help reduce a delivery backlog.

Mail delivery in and out of affected areas in Queensland was suspended and unlikely to resume in full until next week.

Australia Post said many post offices and delivery centres in the affected areas remained open but road access had restricted transportation.

“We're appealing to people to hold off on lodging their parcels and letters until the floods subside," a statement from the company said.

“Where road access is possible we are continuing to collect mail from street posting boxes, but we urge people to hold off on posting non-urgent mail until the floods subside."
