After a four month sabbatical, former LAN Systems GM Nick Verykios is back in the distribution channel, securing a 14 percent stake in niche security player Firewall Systems joining LAN founder Scott Frew in the process.
Verykios worked with Frew at LAN Systems before taking over as chief marketing and strategic development officer when Frew sold his shares in LAN in early 2000 and moved to Europe.
In July this year, Frew - identifying emerging opportunities in the security market - acquired 75 percent of Firewall Systems from company co-founder Gary Thomas and established a new office for the distributor in Lane Cove, Sydney.
With Verykios on the board, Frew's share of Firewall Systems has been diluted to 51 percent. Firewall Systems' founder and technical director John Labza holds 25 percent with 10 percent owned by the remaining staffers.
Verykios would undertake the role of marketing director and assist security-focused resellers to put together solid security infrastructures and own the customer relationship.
He described Firewall Systems as a "company that sells a bunch of technology and services that allow resellers to sell an active security policy."
"Security is not just a thing that's part of the network DNA, it's [driven] by corporate governance. Someone's got to own that process - the reseller has the opportunity to own that process," he said.
Firewall distributes for a range of security vendors including traffic management and application security vendor F5; firewall and VPN vendor Watchguard; managed security service provider Network Box and identity authentication outfit Vasco. It also distributes Borderware's email security product MXtreme.
