They are Sydney-based system integrator Commulynx (18th), Melbourne-based managed services company Blue Apache (21st), Perth-based IT services organisation Leap Consulting (39th) and major Victorian firm Advent One (44th). Together they make up the five-year ‘All Stars’. These members of the class of 2009 are the Fast50’s true stayers.
Over the course of five years, these four growth specialists went from a combined revenue of $15.9 million to reach a total of $38.6 million.
Commulynx grew the fastest over the past 12 months, although it is also the smallest of the four. Blue Apache, the second largest, added over $2 million of revenue year-on-year to graduate into an $8 million business. Advent One, which is larger than the other three combined, was the slowest but still grew a respectable 18.67 percent.
One of the hallmarks of successful companies is the efficiency they deliver as they grow – basically how much more money do they get every time they add headcount. On that count, all four of our five-year alumni were winners, improving their revenue per employee as they adjusted their staff numbers. The star performer on that front was Leap Consulting, which actually increased its revenues 20 percent while trimming headcount by 10 percent.
Commulynx also has a very efficient model; each extra employee generated almost half a million dollars, more than double its overall revenue per employee.
In speaking about his company’s performance, Commulynx co-owner Broderick Smith told CRN: “We picked many new government, education and health clients rounding out our market penetration so as not to be reliant on just a few segments.
“This has greatly assisted the development of our specialised skills for larger deployments and selective outsourcing in this space.”
