Zoho Corporation has built its own data centre server, Nathu La, extending the company’s control over its technology stack from application software down to the hardware that runs it.
Designed in-house and built on Intel Xeon 6 processors in collaboration with Intel, the server follows an Open Compute Project design philosophy focused on modularity and thermal efficiency.
Zoho plans to host its own applications on the platform, which it says lets it tune the full hardware-and-software stack to its workloads. The company claims Nathu La delivers equivalent performance to comparable hardware while using 12 to 18 per cent less power and cutting total cost of ownership by 20 to 30 per cent, and says it also lowers the cost of running AI inference.
The server was designed by Zoho’s hardware engineering team in India, with the company positioning it as a step toward technological 'sovereignty': all intellectual property owned in India, more than five patents filed, and no dependence on foreign vendors for firmware updates, security audits or licensing.
“Zoho Corporation has invested in building its own technology stack from the ground up over the last three decades. The Nathu La server launch is in line with that goal” said Shailesh Davey, chief executive of Zoho Corporation.
