Yahoo has sold its social bookmarking site, Delicious, to the founders of YouTube.
Yahoo has been attempting to offload Delicious since last year, when it identified a series of websites and services that were no longer part of the company's core business.
Rival StumbleUpon was reported to be lining up a bid earlier this year but instead the site has been sold to Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, who had $US1.6 billion burning a hole in their pocket from the 2006 sale of YouTube to Google.
Yahoo hasn't revealed details of the sale price, but it's unlikely to have even dented the YouTube duo's enormous fortune.
Yahoo was rumoured to be entertaining bids of around $US1 million earlier this year, a desperately poor return on the reported $US30 million Yahoo paid for Delicious in 2005.
Users signing into the service this morning are being asked to allow Yahoo to transfer their bookmarks to Hurley and Chen's new company, AVOS.
Users who don't agree will be allowed to continue using the service until "approximately July 2011", after which they will no longer have access to their account and stored bookmarks.
